Rollout Timing: MC1117098 – Announcing Public Preview of Project Manager agent in Shared Premium Plans | Microsoft 365 Message Center Archive

What It Does

•  Automates Planning: Converts project goals or uploaded documents into structured plans with tasks, subtasks, durations, and dependencies.

•  Executes Tasks: Can be assigned to tasks and will generate outputs (text, images, tables) directly in the task using Loop components.

•  Collaborates in Real Time: Works within Microsoft Teams and Planner, updating tasks dynamically and responding to feedback.

•  Generates Reports: Tracks progress, sends reminders, and creates status updates to keep stakeholders informed.

•  Learns from Feedback: You can refine its outputs by commenting or regenerating tasks based on your input.

Licensing Requirements

To use the Project Manager Agent:

You need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

For premium features, you also need Planner Plan 1, Project Plan 3, or Project Plan 5.Getting Setup

The Project Manager agent is a GenAI*-powered assistant embedded in Planner that:

*A GenAI-powered assistant is a digital agent built using Generative AI technologies—typically large language models (LLMs)—that can understand natural language, generate human-like responses, and perform complex tasks across domains. Unlike traditional rule-based bots, GenAI assistants are dynamic, context-aware, and capable of reasoning, learning, and adapting over time.

Use Case: AI-Powered Project Delivery for Microsoft 365 Consulting

 Objective

Streamline client onboarding, solution delivery, and reporting by using the Project Manager Agent to automate planning, execution, and communication across Microsoft 365 transformation projects.

 Scenario: SharePoint Governance Implementation

You’re engaged by a mid-sized enterprise to implement SharePoint Online governance, including:

    • Site provisioning automation

    • Content type standardization

    • Permission and lifecycle policies

    • Power BI reporting integration

How the Project Manager Agent Adds Value

1. Automated Project Planning

    • You input the client’s goals (e.g., “Implement SharePoint governance framework across 12 departments”).

    • The agent generates a full project plan in Planner:

    • Tasks: Site script validation, hub site setup, content type deployment

    • Dependencies: PowerShell script testing before rollout

    • Timelines: Estimated durations and milestones

2. Task Execution with Loop

    • Assign the agent to documentation tasks:

        • Drafts governance policy templates

        • Generates PowerShell script summaries

        • Creates visual diagrams for site architecture

    • Outputs are editable Loop components embedded in Planner tasks or Teams chats.

3. Real-Time Collaboration

    • You and your client interact with the agent via Teams:

    • Ask for status updates (“What’s the progress on content type deployment?”)

    • Request revisions (“Regenerate the site provisioning checklist with compliance notes”)

4. Automated Reporting

    • The agent compiles weekly progress reports:

    • Task completion rates

    • Risk flags (e.g., delayed script validation)

    • Embedded Power BI dashboards for executive review

5. Scalable Templates

    • Save the generated plans as templates for future engagements:

    • Governance rollout

    • Teams lifecycle management

    • Timesheet 365 + Power BI integration

 Business Impact

Benefit Description
Efficiency Cuts planning time by 60–70% for repeatable engagements.
Consistency Ensures standardized delivery across clients.
Scalability Enables junior consultants to execute tasks with AI support.
Client Satisfaction Transparent progress tracking and polished deliverables.

Hopefully that helped and gives you a better understanding of the new Project Manager Agent (PMA). Best of luck, looks like another powerful tool from Microsoft.
